Well, for a start Claire Owen decided 18 years ago that she wanted to create an independent marketing recruitment company that cares about the people rather than the financial bottom line. We're matchmakers not brokers, guided by our hearts as much as our heads. With these values in mind, Stopgap UK was founded in 1993, whilst the Australian office opened in 2000. Run by ex-marketers, it was the first specialist freelance recruitment agency in the UK.

It's now 2011 and those initial values haven't changed, although the name has! Due to branching out into permanent roles, the decision was made to create a company 'umbrella', the Stopgap Group, under which all these great services would sit. So now we have Stopgap for freelance and permanent marketing jobs in Australia and the UK, along with the UK's Fitzroy for senior marketing jobs.

Over 80 people now work at the Stopgap Group across all these services and below you'll see each one in a little more detail.
